Gardening club finished the year by completing two projects as well as harvesting potatoes, beans, peas and strawberries. The first project was a bug hotel which was made from pallets and other recycled materials. The second project linked to our learning theme on Africa. We made an African keyhole garden which is a method of gardening used in areas such as Lesotho where the soil is too poor to grow crops successfully. The raised bed incorporates its own compost bin so that the soil is constantly being fed nutrients from animal dung and plant waste. We are looking forward to seeing if this method of gardening has been successful when we get back to school in September.
