The first two Painted Lady butterflies emerged from their chrysalides today while Mrs Newman was on holiday in Cornwall! They stayed still for at least two hours until their wings had hardened before they began to explore the butterfly cage. We have given them cut up oranges and some blossom to feed on.
Overnight lots more butterflies appeared and we travelled back from Cornwall with 20 painted ladies!
Since we have been back in Wiltshire we have opened the top of the butterfly cage to see if they want to fly out. So far they haven't been too keen! Maybe it's a bit too cold for them.
