Joining Luckington Community School

Choosing a school is an important step, and we want you and your child to feel welcome from your very first visit. Whether you are looking for a Reception place or considering a move from another school, we would love to meet you.

A personalised tour with Mrs Gingell, our Headteacher, gives you the opportunity to see learning in action, meet our staff and children, and talk about what matters to your family. Our children particularly enjoy sharing their learning and telling visitors about life at Luckington.

A confident start to school

Our size helps us get to know new children quickly and build relationships with their families. Familiar faces, friendships across year groups and adults who know their names help children develop a sense of belonging.

For children joining Reception, we work with families and early years settings to learn about their interests, strengths and needs before they start. A staggered start during the first couple of weeks gives children time to become familiar with the classroom, routines and school day. Our older pupils enjoy helping younger children find their feet and feel part of the school community.

If your child joins us in another year group, we will work with you and their previous school to support the move. We take time to help them build friendships, understand new routines and settle into their learning.

Supporting your child

If your child has special educational needs, a disability or any other needs you would like to discuss, please speak with Mrs Gingell, who is also our Special Educational Needs Coordinator. An early conversation helps us understand your child and plan their transition together.

Applying for a place

Children usually start Reception in September following their fourth birthday. For application information, please follow the local authority admissions links below.

A school visit is separate from the formal application process. Please contact the school office if you need help finding the right information about Reception applications or moving schools during the year.
