English

"When I read great literature, great drama, speeches or sermons, I feel that the human mind has not achieved anything greater than the ability to share feelings and thoughts through language."

James Earl Jones

At Luckington, our aim is to ensure that all children are strong, confident readers, who read for pleasure and for knowledge and can communicate clearly, eloquently and skilfully using written language.

In both classes English is taught every day through a mix of specific English lessons, guided reading, handwriting, phonics and spelling. We believe in a cross-curricular approach to teaching English so you will find a great deal of reading and writing being done in other subjects.

To deliver our phonics and reading curriculum we use the 'Unlocking Letters and Sounds' phonics Scheme. Please see the document below for more information.
