Mathematics

"Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas."

Albert Einstein

At Luckington we aim to ensure that all children have mastered the key mathematical skills and concepts and have the ability to reason mathematically.

We all know the importance of ensuring learning is embedded in your child's long term memory. Therefore, to address this, we teach maths using an approach called 'Maths Mastery'.  Teaching maths for mastery is a transformational approach to maths teaching which stems from high performing Asian nations such as Singapore. When taught to master maths, children develop their mathematical fluency without resorting to rote learning and are able to solve non-routine maths problems without having to memorise procedures.

You can find out more information about how we teach maths in our maths policy which you can download below. To get an idea of the content of our maths curriculum, download the Skills and Knowledge Progression.
