Annual Statement of Governance 2019-2020

The governing body of Luckington Community School is committed to fulfilling its functions effectively and to demonstrating accountability for its work each year. This governance statement gives a brief overview of issues addressed in the last academic year and our assessment of the impact of the governing body on the school. Also included are our key priorities for 2019/20.

Strategic Functions of the Governing Body

In accordance with the Government’s requirement for all governing bodies, the three core strategic functions of the Governing Body at Luckington School are:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Over and above this we seek to ensure the school is a safe and friendly environment for children, staff and parents where potential is maximised.

Governance Arrangements

The Full Governing Body (FGB) and the Finance Committee (FC) meet at least four times per year. Additionally, there are specific panels that meet when required.  Responsibilities for the Finance Committee are found in their terms of reference which are agreed annually. The Full Governing Body is made up of up to three parent governors, up to seven co-opted governors, one local authority governor, one staff governor (not the Headteacher) and the Headteacher.
